Reason for Sale This BMW 530d is being sold as spares or repair due to an intermittent electrical fault. The car can still run and drive, but the issue will need investigation and repair by the buyer. Known Electrical Fault · The fault is intermittent and can cause the instrument cluster and iDrive screen to go blank. · When the fault occurs, most electrical components stop working. · The windscreen wipers may sometimes come on by themselves and cannot be switched off until the fault clears. · As it is a diesel, the engine can continue running during the fault, but once stopped there may be battery drain because the electrical system does not always go to sleep properly. · Despite extensive testing by myself and a local auto electrician, the source of the problem has not been identified. Ownership and Mechanical Notes I have owned the car since it was imported from Ireland in 2019. It has always impressed me with its comfort and performance, especially from the well-regarded M57 diesel engine. The engine pulls very strongly, and it does not feel like a car that has covered 215,000 miles. · EGR has been bypassed. · ECU has been recoded to remove the related error code and improve fuel economy. · No engine management light issues are present. · MOT is due in August. · A lot of work was carried out for the last MOT, so if repaired, I would not expect major expense for the next one. Bodywork and Other Issues The car is now over 20 years old, so the bodywork has various age-related marks. The worst area is the roof, which has small dents from someone having gone over it. Please see the pictures for details. · Bluetooth is not working. · Air conditioning is not very cold. · There are other minor age-related issues, as expected for a 20+ year old vehicle. Summary If there is no interest as a spares or repair project, the next option will be to scrap the car. That would be a shame, as I believe there is still life left in it for someone willing and able to take it on. I am happy to answer any questions about the vehicle.
